The Champion Seeds Story

Champion Farmer Seeds Cooperative Company Ltd is a commercial seed company and social enterprise that is in the business of producing and selling high quality certified seed of highly adaptable, high yielding and drought tolerant varieties of maize (hybrid and open pollinated), sorghum, groundnuts, and pearl millet, all of which are crops that are very important for the food, nutrition and income security of small holder farmers in agro-ecological regions III, IV and V of Zimbabwe. The company was formed with the aim of improving access by smaller holder farmers to quality seed of improved varieties of diverse crops that are important for food, nutrition and income security in the face of a changing climate while also empowering the seed growers economically. The company’s choice of crops is on the basis of the observed chronic shortage of certified seed for these crops (except maize).
